Two Can Play That Game

Taking advantage of this week’s warm weather in a knee length turtleneck dress, not one but two ways.

The first outfit is how I would normally walk to work everyday, in something flat for comfort. Usually I can brave the concrete jungle in 4 maybe even 5 inch heels, but lately I’ve been preserving my feet as much as I can (they can really take a beating in heels). My sister gave up one of her brand new beanies seconds before my day’s outfit photos and I quickly snatched it out of her hands. Perfect timing! I threw on MY beanie and played it cool for the camera. Thanks Mayger!

Taking off the beanie and my converse was the next step (the secret?) to get to outfit number two. A sexy side to the turtleneck dress that I paired with nude patent pumps and a long cardigan for the superwoman affect. American Apparel clothing is very versatile and I love them for that. I know I can do even more with the black one, I’m coming for ya!

Which of the two looks is your favorite?  Are you a fan of American Apparel? I like to pass by on Halloween to see all the costume ideas the employees come up with just American Apparel pieces.

Can’t wait for tonight’s Halloween parade. :)

Bienvenido a Modani

Welcome to Modani!

I was chosen to put together my ideal living room space with pieces from Modani modern furniture store for a chance to have my board featured on their Pinterest.

The first thing I did was work around the accessories like I sometimes do with my outfits. When I buy new jewelry, a bag, or a new pair of shoes I don’t hesitate to incorporate it in my next outfit. The goal is to create (by using Pic Collage) a classic outfit that you’ll always wear with hints of bold color, print, or accessories to make the entire look pop.

I noticed from the choices I was given, my favorite neutrals: white, greys, black with subtle pops of color. I remembered an outfit I put together this past summer, that I wanted to use for inspiration.

One thing those close to me know is that I can never get enough of throw pillows, on my bed and hopefully when I have my apartment set up I can pile them up on my sofa too like I did here. In this collage I chose white as my base and grey for some accent pieces (the sofa, rug, or pillows) with just a few eye catching pieces, from the funky prints to the splashes of chartreuse and fuchsia. I wanted to decorate a room that had a minimalistic feel with hints of femininity. I kept the space clean and simple with the straight cut lines of the coffee table and mirror. I love mirrors, they always add a touch of glamour and can even make smaller spaces look bigger.

In my home, we have trunks and vases everywhere. They’re great to use for storage when you don’t have enough closets and they it gives a chance to show your creativity because they come in many styles. I finished off my minimalistic inspired living room with this white trunk set and shiny eclectic vase.

You can view any of Modani’s displays at their modern furniture stores, feel free to take a look.

How do you define your home style?

Sunday Chill

Sunday was such a chilly day, all I wanted to do was stay indoors, under the covers binging on SVU marathons. Instead I got dressed and went out for a walk around the park. It was probably the best decision I made all day. Sometimes a breeze or two is necessary to recollect your thoughts to prepare yourself for the Manic Mondays and the week ahead.
This is the kind of weather to layer up in your most cozy pieces. To keep me from getting frost bit, (okay fine it wasn’t that cold) I added my favorite (and in great condition) open front cardigan to my thick knitted turtleneck. Anything in my closet that is black, grey, or white is a favorite of mine. A bonus when it has all three colors! Back in the day, I experimented a lot with fashion (my parents couldn’t buy me and my 3 sisters a whole new wardrobe every season) so to me, all my clothes were for the 365 days of the year. One look that never got old for me is wearing denim cut offs with tights and boots, booties and sometimes even chunky heel shoes. Here I chose to go with a flat over the knee boot for a comfortable stroll.

If you’re in New York, are you looking forward to the 70 degree weather we’re having today? I might be overdressed, but we’ll get to that later in the week.

Do you dare to bring your cut offs from Summer to Fall?

Getting Witchy With It

If you’re not into Halloween and there’s no way you’re getting into a costume, but are dragged to the parade or a party, don’t panic. Right in your closet there’s a costume waiting to be created. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Let your mind wander and think of what you’d like to become. A witch? Take out all your black clothing (I know some of us have more than enough) and start picking your favorite from the bunch, then decide whether you want to be the sexy or classic witch. Halloween gives women the opportunity to play out their fantasies for the whole world to see. Please, spare us a little ladies. If it’s a chilly night and you can’t brave the cold, do as I did; wear a turtleneck tucked into a pencil skirt, tights and some pointed boots like these Altuzarra for Target ones I snagged from the collection to give off a witchy vibe. Tights are the perfect way to stay warm with any costume. The colors are endless too. The finishing touches to your witch costume should be easy, the hat, nose and some evil green face paint! Now if you’re a Halloween fan like I am, getting your makeup done by a professional (at the MAC Soho store) can make you look like this :

That’s me last year as a Harlequin. :) As much as I like to keep things under a budget, I go all out on Halloween and I’m that person who drags everyone into it too!

What are you dressing up as this Halloween?

RIP Oscar de la Renta 1932-2014

Today is a sad day in the fashion and Dominican community. The first time I found out Renta was Dominican I thought to myself what better representation than a Dominican man dressing women all over the world, in that same world where men could barely dress themselves. Stereotypical views were pushed to the side when Oscar walked into the fashion industry, you know the one where Dominican men only play baseball and let’s be real, where most love to undress women. He believed elegance, sophistication, and beauty was every woman’s desire.

Although he was known for his evening wear and pantsuits, my personal favorite were his wedding gowns. I’ve always dreamed of walking down the aisle in one of his creations. An honor of wedding season I’ve gathered my favorite of his designs from the Bridal 2014, Fall 2014 and Bridal 2015 Collections.

Superpower

Babies are just super cute and I can’t wait to have one of my own. For now I have the joy of attending (and sometimes planning) other friends and family baby showers. This past Saturday I went to one of my cousin’s baby shower. It’s always nice to come together when you’re celebrating an exciting new addition to the family. In some cultures, baby showers take place in the evening with women and men in attendance. Dressing for an evening baby shower is fairly easy when deciding what to wear. I think a cocktail dress below or at the knee, or jeans and a blouse, but always heels are a perfect way to celebrate. My cousin’s baby shower had a superhero theme; now what better way to show strength and femininity than by wearing your fave sky highs? Even the preggers was in heels all night while dancing, greeting relatives, and making a toast. I have a feeling she’ll wear heels right up until giving birth, I know I will. Now that’s what I call a Superwoman!

What do you wear to baby showers? Ever feel like walking in heels is the ultimate superpower?

Stepping Out

Last week I went for a different look, and this is what I came up with, a touch of boho chic. I stepped out of my comfort zone when I chose to wear these worn out (nothing wrong with that) suede boho type over the knee boots with my office uniform. Normally I would have gone with a nude pump, buttoned up the blazer and added a thin belt around the waist for a sleeker appearance (try it), instead I decided to loosen things up and let the blazer blow with the wind! To not look completely washed out, I pouted my lips with Nars Velvet Matte lip pencil in Cruella. I’m not a fan of wrinkles (who is really?) and normally I would have passed on posting this look, but in the real life office world, sitting in front of the computer is part of my job and you’re bound to get wrinkled the minute you sit down! A girl can’t stand all day in heels! Try to stay wrinkle free ladies and gentlemen!

I should really start taking these outfit photos before I get to work!

What do you think of this look? How was everyone’s weekend?
