2016

Bitter Sweet 16

It took so long for me to write the last post of the year, but I am here and ready to move forward.

2016 took me on a roller coaster ride: the lows sunk me at times where I felt stuck, the twists and turns shook me to my core, and the highs although there were a few, did not reach the heights I aspire to be.

So much so that it has reflected upon my outfits; I totally took advantage of the whole hoodie and sweatpants trend (thank you, Athleisure)

In life, there are the days you wake up and find devilish energy on your back. If you let it, it creeps its way up to the right side of your shoulder and cranks up the negative thoughts and feelings so loud that all you can do to make it through the day is grab a pair of sweatpants.
I’ve been MIA, but I have done some reflecting. I realized that if you don’t believe in yourself, no one ever will and your world and your dreams will begin to crumble right before your eyes.

From now on I’m going to turn the crumble into glitter and sprinkle my way through the fashion world one budget outfit at a time.

This outfit goes back to Christmas Eve. I took a basic velvet number -added a cape and choker. I was channeling my inner superhero. I love the new lightweight trenchcoats and cardigans, it adds effortless drama to even the most casual looks.

2017 is here, how is it going so far?

Always remember to set your own pace and not sweat the small stuff…

Love, BudgetSai

Reformed

There’s nothing wrong with re-visiting a favorite item in your closet, as long as you keep your look fresh. This reformation bodysuit is my absolute favorite, although I’m pretty obsessed with bodysuit dressing in general these days, this one’s at the top of the list. It’s comfortable, sexy, and the color is unexpected, but neutral and can go with a lot. I like it when a bodysuit has a thong bottom, but this one actually doesn’t and the barely there “panty lines” are impossible to detect under the jeans, skirt or any bottom and I still love it as much! The bodysuit plus skinny jeans trend is everywhere right now. It’s an easy combo if you ask me, the only thing you have to figure out in the end is outerwear and shoes. I like to keep this look simple when it comes to accessorizing. The lace up detailing is enough accessory for me. Less is more in most of my cases! 😉

Happy Friday! Hope the cold isn’t killing anyone’s #tgif vibe!

xoxo, BudgetSai

Sequin-essential

The Oscars were on two nights ago and I couldn’t help but bring a little red carpet glamour to my #OOTD.  I’ve worn this sequin skirt before, and if the Fall 2016 runways are any indication, sequins are having a comeback!  Sequins are no longer your go to last minute night out look, we’re wearing it to work and beyond! So, instead of going over the top, I decided to pair this glitzy number with an understated white button down Ă  la Sharon Stone. The weather was beautiful in New York so I took myself out to the park for fresh air and a few photos. Who better than my city to be my VIP plus one?

If you’re into sequins and want some inspiration on how to wear it night and day, check out my history with all things shine –here, here, and here.

My best dressed during and after the Oscars has to be Rachel McAdams. The simplicity and elegance really stood out amongst the rest. She rocked that baby pink Naeem Khan dress and made it look sexxxy! Check out my Instagram (@budgetsai) for a side by side of her looks.

What were your favorite looks from the Oscars?

Bodysuit -A Love Story

Every season, there comes a trend that catches your eye and runs away with your closet. I present to you my trend crush, the lace up bodysuit. Lately I’ve been adding flirty touches to an otherwise very sexy look. This trend is everywhere, it’s the go-to item for the laid back fashionably savvy. You can wear it with jeans, (as per muah) a pencil skirt, an a line skirt or whatever bottom you wish. I went back to my distressed Topshop denim because to tell you the truth it’s the only pair of denim I have that are high rise and that’s the look I was going for, a pair of Nike sneakers -just do it! Then I topped it off with my BFF- best faux fur.

As you know I’m not afraid to try out trends of the moment. I always try to make sure it still feels like me and my personal style. You never want to be amongst the sheep, letting the trend wear you or simply copying (gasp!) straight from someone else’s outfit. Always wear something that feels natural to you and what you like.

What’s your favorite trend this season?

Are you adding fur to your Winter wardrobe? Are you using it to cover up those revealing bodysuits? 😉

In the Fluff

For those not keeping track, it’s been a weird Winter for New York and the rest of the East Coast. This past weekend we hit all time lows temps! Brutally cold weather only means one thing for me: faux fur. If you don’t have a faux friend to keep you warm or it’s just not your cup of tea, piling layers on top of layers is your best survival plan. There was a point where I couldn’t feel my face from being outside no more than 5 minutes! However, my goal this Winter is to fight through the temperatures with fashion. I will not surrender and wear sweats, I WILL NOT!

This total fluff of mine is from Topshop. The color is in and guess what? It goes perfectly with an all black ensemble, letting this baby shine on her own. I’ve been trying to find the perfect sombrero for my head shape to wear this Winter, a change up from the usual functional Winter hats. This one flatters my oval face, keeps me warm, and it’s cute too.  Finished it off with boots, thick leggings and a turtleneck bodysuit -no skin in sight, but still oh so sexy.

Questions? What would you like to see (more of ) on the blog?

xoxo, Budgetsai

The Blacklist

The color black has become a staple in my wardrobe. When I wear black from head to toe, it’s much more than just a “safe choice”, it’s a state of being. I feel in control and wear it like armor. Black is a color with many faces. Black can be chic, sleek, and sexy. Black may be boring to some and even (gasp!) faux stylish, but in my opinion it takes a real fashionista to rock the same color over and over and keep it fresh.

This winter, I’ve been playing around with texture. I’m currently loving the return of the 90’s, especially the lingerie inspired looks. So, I chose this Bebe silky loose bodysuit with a deep-v opening to go with my pencil skirt. The dress code at my job is thankfully…liberal (lol). Buttons or no buttons, this is the perfect kind of top you want to wear if you have plans after work.

The AltuzarraxTarget snake skin print pencil skirt, the thigh high suede boots and my lush faux fur coat are all sexy in their own right, together they may be too much, but when it comes to black I’m a firm believer that more is more.

My advice for you -take some time during the weekend and plan out outfits and more importantly try it on! Basic items in your closet can be upgraded using different textures and shapes. Start thinking of your closet as a wardrobe and not just “that thing that holds your clothes”. The more you make what you have work harmoniously, the better you will shop. So pull out those “boring” work slacks and just throw every top/shoe/accessory you own its way! Play with colors (if you like) or see how many monochromatic looks you can come up with.

Happy Thursday!

Berry-Liciously Cold

Wintertime calls for layering up and keeping warm, but that doesn’t mean you have to look like a walking snuggie. That’s why when it’s brick out I take advantage of the turtleneck.

The turtleneck is the fool proof cold weather staple, you’ll almost always look put together in one. I own a variety of colors and about 5 black ones, but today I chose a deep berry that was lightweight and still covered all of my neck. Adding a matching lip was a fun change to my usual nude self. The skirt was right up my alley in length, long enough so that every inch of my body kept warm between neck and toes. Who says you can’t look sexy covered up?

The longer the coat the more dramatic the outfit, and that I’m okay with. I’m also debuting my longer locks, what do you think?

Hope everyone is staying warm here on the east coast. What are your go to outerwear choices?

Happy Friday!
