No Stars, Just Stripes

As many of you know I’ve been in “blog post hiding” for the past couple of months, but a girl’s got to recharge her batteries once in a while. On Instagram, I was throwing back outfit photos because I live for a great theme/series. It was also a way to remind myself that I love dressing up and share it with all of my followers. During this time I was focused on my health, moving, moving on and peace within me. I’ve made some progress in all these things. At 33, losing weight is a struggle mainly because of so many distractions, but I’ve managed to stay on the right path and it starting to show. I’ve moved 4 times as an adult and boy is it a never ending chore. I got rid of so much clutter because starting out fresh was my ultimate goal. I want to invite my followers into my new home through social media once in a while. Connecting with others is something I’ve always wanted to do as a blogger. My home is where I feel the most comfortable and if I can express myself openly in that type of environment then I can build that same confidence, be totally honest and become more personal when I’m blogging.

Moving on, well it’s been a long time coming. I look forward to new beginnings and to live happily ever after. Sharing some of my personal issues on my blog along with telling you about what I’m wearing makes me feel complete.

The beginning of Summer can be very tricky when deciding what to wear. For some strange reason on the second day of Summer (my birthday) the weather went from cool to hot to cool to rain. I didn’t let the weather ruin my mood so, I still showed up to MY day. I wore a bodysuit underneath and a longline blazer over just in case a breeze or two came through. The color black solves almost all my problems. It did start to rain, but it didn’t show on my clothes, so we were able to continue shooting my outfit. I wore my favorite black jeans and a pair of leopard booties I’ve had forever. If I can still fix them up 5 years from now, you better believe they will stick around. Now if they fall apart, of course they’ll have to go. I like to find replacements almost identical before I let something go. That only goes for materialistic things, you get me? 😉

I was able to get a blow out (my hair is naturally curly, but I’m sure you already know that) and keep it that way for a few days before the humidity forced another wash. The cuff is an oldie, but always a goodie in the jewelry department. It always makes me feel like I have some sort of super power. That, and the bag brightened up the all around matte look.

Summer’s finally here and I’m already drenched.

What is your favorite trend of this sweaty season?

Have a lovely Fourth of July!

-Sai

Fearless

That’s you, and you and you and me!

This past weekend I participated in the 2nd Annual Women’s March. It has been one hell of a year since last year’s march. I’m not into politics at all, but a Hispanic woman like myself can’t ignore the words and actions that comes out of this presidency. So many emotions ran through my mind, looking around at people of all genders, ages, nationality, sexual preference all with the same American Dream. How can one person try take that away from us?

I grew up in a household with my 3 siblings of parents who immigrated from the Dominican Republic. We are not just first generation, we are THE generation. In my parents eyes, they did the right thing coming to this country, raising educated women, providing for us so that we didn’t struggle in life, to the point where we now can provide for them.

It’s never too late to get out there, speak up and fight for your rights! It is never too late to work hard for your dreams. BE FEARLESS!

And what do fun fearless females wear? Wild wild wild coats! I’ve wanted a leopard coat for a while now and I guess it was just bad timing…until now.

During the Cyber Monday sale I was able to get my hands on this faux fur for, wait for it… $23! Since then we’ve been a match made in Heaven. If you know don’t know me, know this: I love animal print, so it was just a matter of time before I got my paws on a classic piece to add to my wardrobe. I left room underneath for a playful sheer blouse and a pair of snatched attack high waist jeans. I wore patent high heels and a patent tote for a polished work appropriate look. I kept my makeup simple, but if you want to get really wild, wear a seductive red lip to bring all the boys and the girls to the yard. 😉

What brings out your wild side? Tell me your fearless story! 🙂

Love, BudgetSai

The Night Before Christmas

Which on the calendar reads Christmas Eve, is the day most Latinos like myself and my family celebrate. We get together to eat tons of pernil (my shirt got the best of that dish), different kinds of rice dishes, mom’s famous spaghetti (requested at every party we attend), potato salad, green salad, flan and can’t forget the coqui. Christmas Eve is also a time to dress up and catch up on the year we’ve had. Super cliché for wearing red during the holidays, but it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to represent a holiday that I really enjoy -with my family. On that note, I nodded back to my high school days as Catholic school girl. I turned sweet into a sexy 30 with a secretary blouse with bows, mini skirt with pleats and leopard heels.

What did you think of my holiday fashion?
How did you spend the holidays?

I want to tell you a little bit of why I’ve been MIA lately -Christmas night my mother suffered a heart attack and underwent open heart surgery. It’s been almost 2 weeks since this difficult time in my family’s lives, but mom is at home recovering once again. She is one of the strongest people I know. Thank you for all your prayers and support. ❤

Welcome To The Jungle

I spent Mother’s Day with the special ladies in my life: mom, sisters and a few of my aunts. I love to get together with my family. I know there will always be laughter, food and more food!

Leopard is a favorite animal print of mine. Every time I wear it, I feel like a bad ass. You can either tone it down or tone it up like I did in a leather cuff, pouch and dainty accessories. It was so hot and sunny I felt like Tarzan moving from one shade to another just to get a good shot.

How do you wear leopard print? How was everyone’s Mother’s Day weekend?

Urban Renewed

A day in Jersey for a pre-Father’s Day get together called for the return of this olive Yellow is Gold by Sunshine and Shadow silk (yes, it will wrinkle throughout the day as much as you try to avoid it) mini shirt dress from Urban Outfitters. I remember the days in college where I always had to have something from Urban, sale or not. Now I probably look for more sales than anything, but one thing that hasn’t changed is always looking for something that’s going to last me a long time and that I get to wear day and night. In the past I’ve worn this dress with a thin belt and high heel sandals. The color can easily transition into fall to pair with booties or knee high boots. I kept it summer casual in my ShoeMint espadrilles and favorite floral clutch. I added some of my delicate  jewels to freshen up the look. I’m loving the midi ring trend but when I have to wash my hands, every single one has to come off. It’s a great way to take care of your jewelry even if it’s just costume jewelry.

Leyla wanted to show off her new slip-ons from Payless and showed me how to pose in my pictures. She’s a natural. In exchange I joined her for some backyard fun.

How do you wear your shirt dresses?

xoxo, Budget$ai
