Lucky Number 1985

On June 22, 1985 a star was born. Born to shine; let me shine, let me shine, let me shine. Today’s post is a special shout out to all the 1985 babies like me!

Behind everyone’s outfit is a story to tell.

I always want to tell you all from where and how I put an outfit together. I had been eyeing this 1985 shirt ever since it was on the site…but not for sale. So you’re asking yourself how is that even possible?

Well what it looks like H&M does is they will style certain pieces that ARE for sale with other pieces that are NOT for sale -yet. Not sure what is behind this madness, other than causing me stress and anxiety.

So weeks later, I say to myself, I want to wear this for one of my birthday festivities which was getting really close, so I’m going to call them up -but let me check the site one last time! And there it was! Available for purchase! When it’s meant to be, you’ve got to believe it will be.

I don’t necessarily buy t-shirts already tied up because I like to make my own decisions on how to wear an article of clothing, but thank you H&M for the suggestion and the birth year. So I knew I was to wear a high waist something with this top. That something was an H&M satin high waist skirt with a high low hem that I already had hanging in my closet. It was just the right amount of peek-a-boo between the knot of the shirt and the skirt.

Now for the shoes: I came across these shoes in the clearance department, somewhere I never bother going into because I don’t have much luck there. Actually now that I think about it, I don’t have luck with shoes at all at T.J. Maxx. My 7 1/2 foot is a popular size. Also the selection is one of the smallest, so what you see is what you’re gonna get. What caught my eye was the height of the shoe. The print was very cutesy -not necessarily my cup of tea BUT they were black and after trying them on, I thought it could go places with this pair. I mean DVF for $69, I’ll take it! And guess what guys? I haven’t taken them off all Summer Seventeen.

It was pretty sunny this day so I went with a pair of big, bold, black sunglasses. They made the look extra sassy. And who doesn’t want to be extra or sassy on their born day?

On a scale from one to ten, how much sass do you pizzazz?

What trends are you following and which one would you like to see me in next?

Love, BudgetSai

How To Think Pink In Your 30s

It’s been 2 weeks since the celebration of National Pink Day. There’s nothing wrong with being in the spirit of any National (insert here) Day. I love holidays/national days because it brings people together in a fun lighthearted way.

This little pink number was pretty easy to choose until I realized I didn’t have much to work with. I had no choice but to throw it back since I didn’t have the time to go shopping for something new. I’m trying to update and reinvent what’s already in my closet instead of resorting to making a new purchase.

So even though I’ve been working out lately, I was still hesitant about the crop top. The only way to hide the extra goods was with a high waist something. a light satin color blazer -to prevent from overpowering the pink and long enough for a leaner illusion. It felt or looked more like Spring all over again once I added flower-ful clutch.

What color do you feel the most “girly” in? What’s the guilty pleasure in your closet?

Check out my eBay: budgetsaiyou. Add more to your closet, from my closet!

Happy Shopping, Happy Weekend!

Lace Me Up (Again)

…in a little black dress. I love way the lace hugs my curves and how oh-so-sexy it makes me feel. I added black ankle straps and a pop of white leather with floral details to remind me that Summer is still here!

How do you think I pulled off this dress a third time?

Who else plans to take a dip in the ocean this weekend? Have a lovely one!

Art // Garden // Life

…Frida Kahlo at the New York Botanical Garden.

The garden was everything I wished it to be, a breathtaking scenery of over 200 species of trees and flowers all around the 250 acres of garden grounds. The Rose Garden and the imitation of Frida’s Casa Azul were my absolute favorite, surrounded by so much color and so much life. Her paintings, although mostly self-portraits were also vibrant and told her story physically and emotionally. If you haven’t gone already, the exhibition runs through November 1st! Go out there be one with nature and Frida!

My braids and dress choice were all in her honor and style. How do you think I pulled off the look?

Floral A Flare

Happy Monday!

When we think about 70’s fashion, we envision bell bottoms, bold prints, and very high wedge sandals. I took all three of these images and made it into one modern day outfit. I paired it with a biker jacket and classic wayfarers for a fresh spin on my otherwise very retro look.

How do you think I pulled off my second 70’s groovy-ness? What Spring trends have you tried lately?

Hope everyone has a groovy week!

This Christmas

I thought it would be a good idea to put on my Christmas Eve outfit this past weekend and take some outfit photos before the rain had a chance to ruin my hair! I’m sure I won’t be able to wear my gown if there’s a down pour, but a gown is another Holiday look I totally approve.

As a Latina it’s always been a tradition to celebrate Christmas Eve (otherwise known as ‘Noche Buena‘) much more than Christmas Day. Christmas Day for us is hangover leftover day, which to many is still a celebration. One of my many aunts invited us to her annual Christmas Eve gathering. It’s been a while since we’ve been there, so this year I’m hoping like every other year: to have a good time with family I often don’t get to spend time with. During this time of year, I love all the Christmas songs that are played in the stores and on my iPhone. That’s right I download Christmas music. Whatever makes us happy. 😉

I just had to have this dress from the Altuzarra for Target collection. Why not? You have a better chance of wearing gowns around the last two seasons of the year than any other time of the year. Gowns are easy to put on, glamorous and always make a statement, even if you’re turning heads or trying to fit your dress through a door. I altered my dress (lower v neck also known as a deep V and a higher slit to show how much I’ve been working out -Not!) for a sexier touch and I really loved how it came out in pictures. What do you think of my alterations?

Where will you be spending Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day? Most importantly, what will you be wearing?

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays! 🙂

Maroon Sai

I’ve had this lace motorcycle jacket forever! My sister’s hair stylist (thank you Gladys!) thought she would be the best candidate for it 6 years ago! Wrong! I totally took control over it and kept it for myself. Only thing is, exactly that -it’s been 6 years! We’ve thought about dying it another color – of course black. Shaking my head! I can tell you it’s not like we weren’t into fashion then we just saw this piece as one of a kind and we didn’t want to f*** it up! How were we going to style this maroon (remember that episode from Saved By The Bell) colored jacket? Up until this week it has been in the cleaners pile (we were serious about the dying) the whole time. Every Fall -it’s like okay it blends in to the current season, now what? Well the best way to style a piece you aren’t familiar with is to keep it within it’s color group.  That’s exactly what I did.

I decided to wear my H&M high waist burgundy, maroon, wine, whatever you want to call it pencil skirt, but I knew I couldn’t just pull off the jacket without anything underneath. I found this wool cropped top at a market in Jersey for $5, so I played around a bit. The top and skirt looked great together so I really didn’t need the jacket. At this point I’m like should I just get rid of this jacket? No! Let me work something out.  I threw on the jacket and voila! Perfect! Finally! Next was the shoes. I knew they had to be nude, but what kind of shoe? It was chilly, but warming up later on so I went with the nude lace up sandals I just received in the mail a few days ago that are super chic looking and affordable! I’m thinking about getting the black ones too, they are only $29.80!  And there you have it. Sometimes you hold on to some pieces for so long, but you know you can’t let go of them just yet! Give it a chance, especially if you know so much more can come from it.

Do you hold on to pieces of clothing for too long? That you’ve never worn?

Are you wearing your Fall colors already? How are you feeling this weather?

Happy Hump Day!

xoxo, Budget$ai
