Sheer Mystery

You ask what am I doing with an overcoat in the middle of the Summer? Whatever floats your boat, or should I say coat? L-O-L. It’s the perfect Summer coat: sheer, light, and full of dramas (aka the duster).

What’s lying underneath? A swimsuit turned bodysuit. Summer Fridays are in full effect at work and who knows where the early exit will lead you. Pool parties are a thing in the city, so why not dive right in after you punch out? I decorated my lower half in light denim flares. Light blue denim is not discreet and demands attention so find a pair that ARE flattering to your body type.

I am loving the gold chain trend this season. For this one, I had to contact a few sisters for it, but it was all worth it in the end. 4 chainz to fill up the chest was my goal. More is more this Summer and so I topped off the look with my staple gold hoops. Oh yeah and this season’s obsession, the DVF sandals. 🙂

What are you wearing to stand out on these last days of Summer?

Lucky Number 1985

On June 22, 1985 a star was born. Born to shine; let me shine, let me shine, let me shine. Today’s post is a special shout out to all the 1985 babies like me!

Behind everyone’s outfit is a story to tell.

I always want to tell you all from where and how I put an outfit together. I had been eyeing this 1985 shirt ever since it was on the site…but not for sale. So you’re asking yourself how is that even possible?

Well what it looks like H&M does is they will style certain pieces that ARE for sale with other pieces that are NOT for sale -yet. Not sure what is behind this madness, other than causing me stress and anxiety.

So weeks later, I say to myself, I want to wear this for one of my birthday festivities which was getting really close, so I’m going to call them up -but let me check the site one last time! And there it was! Available for purchase! When it’s meant to be, you’ve got to believe it will be.

I don’t necessarily buy t-shirts already tied up because I like to make my own decisions on how to wear an article of clothing, but thank you H&M for the suggestion and the birth year. So I knew I was to wear a high waist something with this top. That something was an H&M satin high waist skirt with a high low hem that I already had hanging in my closet. It was just the right amount of peek-a-boo between the knot of the shirt and the skirt.

Now for the shoes: I came across these shoes in the clearance department, somewhere I never bother going into because I don’t have much luck there. Actually now that I think about it, I don’t have luck with shoes at all at T.J. Maxx. My 7 1/2 foot is a popular size. Also the selection is one of the smallest, so what you see is what you’re gonna get. What caught my eye was the height of the shoe. The print was very cutesy -not necessarily my cup of tea BUT they were black and after trying them on, I thought it could go places with this pair. I mean DVF for $69, I’ll take it! And guess what guys? I haven’t taken them off all Summer Seventeen.

It was pretty sunny this day so I went with a pair of big, bold, black sunglasses. They made the look extra sassy. And who doesn’t want to be extra or sassy on their born day?

On a scale from one to ten, how much sass do you pizzazz?

What trends are you following and which one would you like to see me in next?

That In Satin

I’m back (insert crying emoji)! I shut myself out of social media to give myself sometime to deal with insecurities, my self-conscience-mess, and other personal issues. I just needed some time to think about what I wanted in life. I found myself constantly thinking about my career goals and how to set things in motion so I can reach those goals.

As for blogging- I thought about whether I should continue on this journey? Could I continue without getting sidetracked with self doubt and negativity? Can I do what I love and love myself in the process? I hope so. Sometimes you forget why you start something and it becomes something you had to envisioned sometimes for the better and sometimes not. I started this blog because I wanted to share my style for those who like to look sexy, chic, and stylish without breaking the bank…unless they can and want to. Regardless, I am here to stay through all my ups, downs and your budget needs.

I’m 32 now and a new set of responsibilities have taken over my life, but there’s always room for a good time in my book. For my birthday a few weeks ago, I wanted to stand out and not go the usual LBD (little black dress) route. Satin is having a moment right now and I am totally for it. Who doesn’t like the softness, sensual, sexy feeling when you throw on a dress like this one. You also can’t go wrong with embracing color in your 30’s or at any age. If you have somewhat of your s*** together -you should feel sexy in the process.

It was my first time wearing a pair of Aldo shoes and I have to say they did not disappoint. I could have gone with a simple ankle strap, but I was dying to get a pair with all that fluff on the front band. They’re affordable and even more now that they’re on sale! Super feminine and playful for a night out on the town to celebrate my born day.

I normally keep it very simple, so simple many of my outfits you’ll see are accessorized with just a sparkly stud, but this Summer I’m blingin’ it way out and keeping it cool in hoops and layered necklaces.

Thank you for all of your kind words and birthday wishes. I promise to be back and better than before!

Are you experimenting with Satin this season?

Bitter Sweet 16

It took so long for me to write the last post of the year, but I am here and ready to move forward.

2016 took me on a roller coaster ride: the lows sunk me at times where I felt stuck, the twists and turns shook me to my core, and the highs although there were a few, did not reach the heights I aspire to be.

So much so that it has reflected upon my outfits; I totally took advantage of the whole hoodie and sweatpants trend (thank you, Athleisure)

In life, there are the days you wake up and find devilish energy on your back. If you let it, it creeps its way up to the right side of your shoulder and cranks up the negative thoughts and feelings so loud that all you can do to make it through the day is grab a pair of sweatpants.
I’ve been MIA, but I have done some reflecting. I realized that if you don’t believe in yourself, no one ever will and your world and your dreams will begin to crumble right before your eyes.

From now on I’m going to turn the crumble into glitter and sprinkle my way through the fashion world one budget outfit at a time.

This outfit goes back to Christmas Eve. I took a basic velvet number -added a cape and choker. I was channeling my inner superhero. I love the new lightweight trenchcoats and cardigans, it adds effortless drama to even the most casual looks.

2017 is here, how is it going so far?

Always remember to set your own pace and not sweat the small stuff…

A Sai of Hoodie

Sometimes we see loungewear as just that, lounge-wearBUT -don’t you ever feel like you want to feel comfortable in something comfortably sexy too?

So for this laid back look, I cut up my leggings into capris -I just felt like the color needed to be cut down a bit and a little bare leg never hurt anybody. My men sized hoodie was long enough to cover the booty, the longer the better ladies (and gentlemen)! You can even get them as big and long as you want to wear as a dress with over the knee boots – SEX-Y! Speaking of sexy, the heels were the perfect compliment to the hoodie’s side silver zipper (so sorry there’s no close up, I promise there will be a next time).

Sexy (there’s that word again) and comfy is my mood as of late, will you join me?

How’s your hoodie collection stacking up?

Boss Lady

Hell yeah. When you go for a cropped leather instead of a boring old blazer, that’s boss. Don’t get me wrong I love blazers, but not dated 80’s style blazers (sorry) .This is the time to play around with semi-light outerwear. Hoodies, leather jackets, longline cardigans, ponchos -anything but a heavy coat! (Insert crying face). Although in the Northeast it gets cold quicker than you know it, you can definitely pull off the light with the heavy (working on that post as we speak) if need be.

First I did go for the perfect secretary ensemble, then I was like well I’m not going to finish this off, I’m going to change it up. So I already told you about my bad ass bomb boss leather (throw some Bs on that ootd = outfit of the day), then there’s the shoes -should I or should not? I have to tell you, this is a love story baby. I love my lace up heels and that’s who I chose to be with for the look of the day. If the weather permitted I’d be in lace up heels all year round. I love the way they climb up your feet.  It never fails to make me feel sexy.

The bodysuit needs no explanation other than the high neck kept it edgier and less cookie cutter with a basic pencil skirt (one you can do anything with -trust me). To top off the look, my shades in case a ray of sunshine throughout the day. I’m looking forward to the cooler weather as long as I can work with it!

Do you have business attire days? Do you pull it off rough around the edges? Or are you a cookie cutter guy or gal with basic on your mind? Whatever floats your boat -go with that. 😉

Halloween is getting closer and I’m still indecisive about a costume. (Insert a double crying face!)

The Arrival

Autumn has finally arrived! However, the heat is still lingering, that still gives you time to set all your Summer clothes aside, pick and choose your transition pieces and prepare your Fall wardrobe. Things you can keep for fall? Open toe shoes.
The fashion world has brought out trends where women are wearing sandals in the cold (bravery if you ask me), sandals with socks (smarter) and pairing it with Summer/Fall friendly looks.
Back when I was younger, anything opened around your toes after Summer was a no no. I’m glad not only is it “allowed”, but that we are more open to expanding our choices each and every season.
For example on my last post I wore those Schutz very high heeled sandals, the first time I ever wore them all Summer -I didn’t want it to be my last. I took a stand for all the open toes out there and I put together a Fall (but still kind of warm) look. I set aside a versatile piece like a denim skirt and paired it with some of my favorite Fall staples: Summer scarf, button down shirt and completed it with a fringe handbag.
I played around with the color scheme starting with the shoe because it was the one piece I did not want to let go of for this outfit (to prove my point). I saw lots of camel, tan, the dark blue from the skirt and the olive green of the shirt complimented those colors. Perfect first day of Fall. How do you think I pulled it off?
What trends are you looking forward to trying in the fall? Any Summer items making its way into your fall wardrobe?
