Lucky Number 1985

On June 22, 1985 a star was born. Born to shine; let me shine, let me shine, let me shine. Today’s post is a special shout out to all the 1985 babies like me!

Behind everyone’s outfit is a story to tell.

I always want to tell you all from where and how I put an outfit together. I had been eyeing this 1985 shirt ever since it was on the site…but not for sale. So you’re asking yourself how is that even possible?

Well what it looks like H&M does is they will style certain pieces that ARE for sale with other pieces that are NOT for sale -yet. Not sure what is behind this madness, other than causing me stress and anxiety.

So weeks later, I say to myself, I want to wear this for one of my birthday festivities which was getting really close, so I’m going to call them up -but let me check the site one last time! And there it was! Available for purchase! When it’s meant to be, you’ve got to believe it will be.

I don’t necessarily buy t-shirts already tied up because I like to make my own decisions on how to wear an article of clothing, but thank you H&M for the suggestion and the birth year. So I knew I was to wear a high waist something with this top. That something was an H&M satin high waist skirt with a high low hem that I already had hanging in my closet. It was just the right amount of peek-a-boo between the knot of the shirt and the skirt.

Now for the shoes: I came across these shoes in the clearance department, somewhere I never bother going into because I don’t have much luck there. Actually now that I think about it, I don’t have luck with shoes at all at T.J. Maxx. My 7 1/2 foot is a popular size. Also the selection is one of the smallest, so what you see is what you’re gonna get. What caught my eye was the height of the shoe. The print was very cutesy -not necessarily my cup of tea BUT they were black and after trying them on, I thought it could go places with this pair. I mean DVF for $69, I’ll take it! And guess what guys? I haven’t taken them off all Summer Seventeen.

It was pretty sunny this day so I went with a pair of big, bold, black sunglasses. They made the look extra sassy. And who doesn’t want to be extra or sassy on their born day?

On a scale from one to ten, how much sass do you pizzazz?

What trends are you following and which one would you like to see me in next?

Love, BudgetSai

Boss Lady

Hell yeah. When you go for a cropped leather instead of a boring old blazer, that’s boss. Don’t get me wrong I love blazers, but not dated 80’s style blazers (sorry) .This is the time to play around with semi-light outerwear. Hoodies, leather jackets, longline cardigans, ponchos -anything but a heavy coat! (Insert crying face). Although in the Northeast it gets cold quicker than you know it, you can definitely pull off the light with the heavy (working on that post as we speak) if need be.

First I did go for the perfect secretary ensemble, then I was like well I’m not going to finish this off, I’m going to change it up. So I already told you about my bad ass bomb boss leather (throw some Bs on that ootd = outfit of the day), then there’s the shoes -should I or should not? I have to tell you, this is a love story baby. I love my lace up heels and that’s who I chose to be with for the look of the day. If the weather permitted I’d be in lace up heels all year round. I love the way they climb up your feet.  It never fails to make me feel sexy.

The bodysuit needs no explanation other than the high neck kept it edgier and less cookie cutter with a basic pencil skirt (one you can do anything with -trust me). To top off the look, my shades in case a ray of sunshine throughout the day. I’m looking forward to the cooler weather as long as I can work with it!

Do you have business attire days? Do you pull it off rough around the edges? Or are you a cookie cutter guy or gal with basic on your mind? Whatever floats your boat -go with that. 😉

Halloween is getting closer and I’m still indecisive about a costume. (Insert a double crying face!)

The Arrival

Autumn has finally arrived! However, the heat is still lingering, that still gives you time to set all your Summer clothes aside, pick and choose your transition pieces and prepare your Fall wardrobe. Things you can keep for fall? Open toe shoes.
The fashion world has brought out trends where women are wearing sandals in the cold (bravery if you ask me), sandals with socks (smarter) and pairing it with Summer/Fall friendly looks.
Back when I was younger, anything opened around your toes after Summer was a no no. I’m glad not only is it “allowed”, but that we are more open to expanding our choices each and every season.
For example on my last post I wore those Schutz very high heeled sandals, the first time I ever wore them all Summer -I didn’t want it to be my last. I took a stand for all the open toes out there and I put together a Fall (but still kind of warm) look. I set aside a versatile piece like a denim skirt and paired it with some of my favorite Fall staples: Summer scarf, button down shirt and completed it with a fringe handbag.
I played around with the color scheme starting with the shoe because it was the one piece I did not want to let go of for this outfit (to prove my point). I saw lots of camel, tan, the dark blue from the skirt and the olive green of the shirt complimented those colors. Perfect first day of Fall. How do you think I pulled it off?
What trends are you looking forward to trying in the fall? Any Summer items making its way into your fall wardrobe?

Olive You

Olive in my eyes is another neutral that can go with many things in your closet. It seals the deal on many outfits and it’s a lighter option for the warmer temperatures. Just like black, you can pair it with simple colors like white, nude, and navy. If you want to be a little more daring go for a monochromatic look and throw on a pop of fuchsia colored lipstick for a little summer sass. It’s my guilty pleasure and this jacket can be thrown over dresses, over tops, as a top, or heck you can even tie it around your waist if it gets too hot!

For my outfit I chose a cream colored bodysuit making it stand out more, but wearing all black underneath can still make this bomber look on trend. The denim skirt was and is another obsession of mine, I have about 5 different styles. The difference in this one is I made a choker out of it. I felt that this length/structure could have gone a little shorter so I took off the seam and went to my favorite tailor and…voila! Choker number 3589! This year’s trends are killing me! I love them! I can’t get enough of them!

Which color is constant in your wardrobe?

Who else is into reworking clothes you own? What have you made over recently?

Fringe With Benefits

As you all know I love black. Black is reliable, it’s comfortable, it’s me. However at the moment I’m having a love affair with fringe.

It’s always a good sign when you go back to items in your closet. It means 1. You’re saving money and 2. You got yourself a stylish piece that you will wear more than once! I paired it with a vintage top. A good vintage transcends decades and seasons. I think it gives the skirt a softer look, don’t you think?

Finished off with shoes that matched and a blazer because well… It’s not Summer yet!

Fringe is everywhere. Not a trend I would have thought to ever wear, but it’s looking like I like mine below the belt. 😉

What fringe pieces are you into this season? Here are some of my favorite fringe looks for less:

Fringe Faux Suede Scarf, $11

Fringe Leather High Heel Shoes, $100

Fringe Belt, $30

Leather Bochoa Fringe Shoulder Bag, $80

Outfit details below! Happy Friday and Happy Weekend!

Sheer Panel

Sorry for being MIA lately! There’s been so much going on, so many changes in my life!

So here as you can see I reached out to a new photographer, @burritomilkshake on Instagram (recommended by @zamnsam), who is pretty amazing if you ask me. I think this might be the beginning of a wonderful blogger/photographer friendship. 🙂 Zamnsam, my baby sister has moved to California. We were inseparable since the day she was born. I love her and wish her all the best on her new journey…

Speaking of all this love, my love for black never gets old. “2 in the morning my mind is on you, 4 in the morning it still hasn’t moved…” I live for these dark moments. Here I’m wearing a mesh bodysuit and satin skirt for a total glam on look. I like to keep the sporty inspired pieces feminine with a twist or should I say a braid? I started to get my hair braided for those sweaty days at the gym, but also changing up my hair is something I want to start doing again this Summer. Do you remember my redhead days? And the blonde?!

Mesh, satin, lace are sexy, light and beautiful on the body. Summer goals or nah? How are YOU getting ready?

What lightweight fabrics will you be wearing?

Sequin-essential

The Oscars were on two nights ago and I couldn’t help but bring a little red carpet glamour to my #OOTD.  I’ve worn this sequin skirt before, and if the Fall 2016 runways are any indication, sequins are having a comeback!  Sequins are no longer your go to last minute night out look, we’re wearing it to work and beyond! So, instead of going over the top, I decided to pair this glitzy number with an understated white button down à la Sharon Stone. The weather was beautiful in New York so I took myself out to the park for fresh air and a few photos. Who better than my city to be my VIP plus one?

If you’re into sequins and want some inspiration on how to wear it night and day, check out my history with all things shine –here, here, and here.

My best dressed during and after the Oscars has to be Rachel McAdams. The simplicity and elegance really stood out amongst the rest. She rocked that baby pink Naeem Khan dress and made it look sexxxy! Check out my Instagram (@budgetsai) for a side by side of her looks.

What were your favorite looks from the Oscars?
